Battenfeld, home to about 50 men, opened in 1940 as KU's first men's scholarship hall and was updated in 2018. The hall is a gift of Jesse R. Sr. and Margaret Battenfeld to honor their son, John Curry Battenfeld. He was a KU student who was killed in a car accident in December 1939.
